HSBC 'paves the way' with installation of biometrics
HSBC has become the first bank in the UK to install biometric facial recognition technology in two new data centres.
The bank is working with OmniPerception, an expert biometrics company based in Surrey, to install the security solution.
Over the next six to nine months, ten light immune facial biometric access control points will be installed using CheckPoint facial-recognition technology developed by OmniPerception.
David McIntosh, chief executive of the company, said: "Helping to prevent sensitive data falling into the wrong hands is clearly an important role for modern facial biometric technology."
He also added that HSBC was setting an example that both "society as a whole" and the banking sector could benefit from.
It is already a requirement that those working in the financial sector and many law firms go through screening for security reasons.
